Ryan Fox is the Open champion after closing at 10 under par, one stroke ahead of Cameron Young at Royal Birkdale. The New Zealander sealed his first major title with a birdie putt on the final hole.
Fox’s finish was built on composure under pressure. He shot a two-under 68 in the final round, made four birdies over his last six holes, and attacked the 18th with a long drive, a controlled approach and an 11-foot putt that decided the championship.
The victory completed a remarkable climb through the field. Fox had opened with a 72 and was well back after Thursday, but a Friday 68 and a Saturday 62 put him into contention before his Sunday surge delivered the Claret Jug.
Cameron Young pushed closest after a final-round 64, but a bogey at the last left him on nine under. Scottie Scheffler and Tommy Fleetwood were among those near the top, while Sam Burns and Kim Si-woo also featured in a shifting final-day lead battle.
